One-Stop English Primary 1

One-Stop English is written with a view to supplement the teaching of English

language in Singapore schools today, particularly in the light of recently announced

changes

With emphasis on reading and writing, this series ponders students with ample

opportunities to read, comprehend and write so that English language learning

becomes a more wholesome experience.

Each unit begins with a Reading and Comprehension passage. These passages

have been written to follow closely the themes in major reading texts used in the

new English programmer. Also, difficult vocabulary words are highlighted in each

passage with meanings given,

These passages are followed by challenging exercises relevant to the new mode

of learning the language to ensure that students get enough practice to refine

their grasp of the language as early as possible,

While at some parts, the students are encouraged to refer to aids like dictionaries

and guides, for the most part, both grammar and vocabulary items tested are

drawn from the Reading and Comprehension passages. This makes learning the

language a more meaningful experience. As grammar items tested are based on

the passages, one can expect to learn first about adverbs instead of adjectives for

instance. However, all grammar items as indicated in the prescribed syllabus from

the Ministry of Education will be covered
